Watching the Ball Drop

Watching the Ball Drop

The animals have gathered around to celebrate New Year’s Eve including their very own ball drop.  I think that countdown will take a bit longer than 10 seconds though.

I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very happy New Year, full of fun, success, health and happiness. I want to thank my sponsors for allowing me to show off your beautiful creations, my friends and family for listening to me blather on about the fun of blogging and my fellow bloggers who have inspired me along the way.

I will end this post by sharing the words from a favorite canvas that hangs in my home.  I read it often as I pass through my home and think the words are important and meaningful for us all.

Be yourself, take chances, create happiness, be passionate, fall in love, practice kindness, travel often, be generous, value friendships, learn new things, laugh every day, respect others, let go, be fearless.

The Holiday Cottage

The Holiday Cottage

Featuring Sway’s

My main home in Second Life is on a beach but every year in early November I find a small parcel on a winter themed sim or make my own in a skybox.  It’s as close to a white Christmas as I will get and I do miss my Michigan white Christmases.  When I started blogging I got a second parcel because I could see that I would be changing decor constantly and as much as I like decorating I still need my “home” to remain constant with a few changes as seasonal items come and go.

Having the second parcel allowed me to set up my own winter getaway this year.  I built it on a sky platform in case I needed to use the water and space on the ground for something and I have enjoyed it for a couple of months now.  I will probably keep it this way until the end of January, when I will start getting the itch for spring to make its appearance.

I built it loosely on the cottage in the movie The Holiday, one of my favorites any time of year. It’s a great movie where two women, played by Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz, switch homes for 2 weeks during the holiday.  It’s has a bit of everything; love, drama, comedy and of course a happy ending.

Sway’s has a few new pieces out for Fifty Linden Friday today that I added to my home and they were the perfect touch.  Be sure to check them out because while Christmas might be over, winter is not.  Stay warm!

Kits, Not Kats

Kits But Not Kats

Featuring |T|L|C| Home Collection

Hello everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  I know I did.  I was a bit surprised how much I missed blogging though…it really is a relaxing, creative outlet for me so I am happy to jump back into the pond.  I think one of my fox friends here has the same idea.

This adorable set, Fox’s Den, comes to us from |T|L|C| and is available at Japonica. The animated scene has foxes and mice and includes both a winter and summer version.  There are linked sets and individual pieces so you can build your own.  Japonica is open now through January 14th.

Fresh Powder

Fresh Powder

Featuring *Kate* Jewelry & Lyrium Poses

Ask around in the skiing community and I am sure you will hear varying definitions of the term “fresh powder” and its been MANY years since I was on a pair of skis, mostly because I just wasn’t that good at it and my desire to learn something that left me sore and freezing was pretty much nonexistent.

Fresh powder to me is waking up in the morning and finding everything has been blanketed in sparkling flakes.  The wind is still, the sun is shining and not man nor beast has disturbed a single flake.  This beauty can also be found on a snowy evening, when it’s the moon and not the sun, casting a glow over the glistening landscape.

It’s two days before Christmas and I am definitely missing the snow right now.  I am thankful for my little cabin in Second Life, decorated festively for the holiday, the ground covered in snow with gentle flakes falling and church bells ringing in the distance.  It’s  as close as I can get to the real thing this Christmas and I am enjoying the peace it brings.

It’s A Wrap!

Wrapping Up Christmas

Featuring Fashiowl Poses and *SK*

I have one small gift left to wrap and then I am officially done!  My husband has a five day weekend starting tomorrow and we are looking forward to our quiet Christmas together.  We celebrated a couple of weeks ago with my daughter and her husband, my sister and my niece, her husband and their new twin daughters.  I will certainly miss not seeing my brother, mother and father and will be sure to enjoy some phone conversation with each.  I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope Santa is good to you!

This super cute pose is by Fashiowl Poses and is one of four adorable sets they have at this round of Tres Chic.  This table, the decor on and under it, including the kitties, are part of the Wrapping set.  It has 7 build in poses and is great to just display as part of your room decor.

Also at Tres Chic is my fuzzy sweater by *SK*.  It is the Estrella sweater and is one of 3 mix and match pieces.  There is also a super sexy star top and a skirt to choose from.  Don’t forget about getting yourself a little gift and head to Tres Chic to pick something  out!

I Love Pillow Piles

Is It Saturday Yet_

Featuring On A Lark, Space Oddities & Sources

For as long as I have been in Second Life I have always loved a good pillow pile!  As a teen I remember begging my mother to let me take down the 2 twin beds that filled my upper loft bedroom and just put the mattresses on the floor, side by side.  Finally one day, she let me!  Once in the floor, they were roughly the size of a king size bed, a luxury to me, and I piled every spare pillow in the house on those mattresses.  I suppose that is where I first fell in love with a good pillow pile.

It was only natural to fix myself a Christmas pillow pile and this big, fuzzy pillow from Sources made a great start.  Then I added some more throw pillows from Space Oddities, which worked perfect with my black and pink theme, and my comfy PJ’s and slippers from On A Lark tied up all the loose ends.  I’m ready to stay put here until after Christmas!  Now who is bringing me treats?

P.S. REDEUX wraps up in a few days so don’t miss my featured items available there.  Info is in the credits!

There’s Gnome Place Like Home

There's Gnome Place Like Home

Featuring Simply Shelby, Sway’s, [Fetch] & Beyond Majestic

I remember as a child during Christmas time, my mother telling me Santa’s elves were watching.  It was a sure fire way to get me and my sister to stop in our tracks and to be on our best behavior…for at least the next 30 minutes or so.  Once I had a daughter of my own I also used this line on her.

My daughter believed in Santa for a long while and I kept the magic alive as long as I could.  Once friends started telling her there was no Santa and filling her with doubt I had to explain Santa a different way.  She was familiar with the “Christmas spirit” that we often talked about so I told her that while Santa may not be a real actual person, maybe Santa is actually a feeling that we get…a feeling of love, of kindness, a feeling that makes us take a closer look at how we treat others.  I told her that maybe “Santa” is what filled my heart with feelings that made me want to care about others, to help others, to be kind to others…maybe that was the Christmas spirit.  I’m sure she was a bit disappointed in the same way I was when I found out the truth about Santa but like her, I am blessed with magical Christmas memories of Santa and his magic.

This feeling is best described in one of my favorite lines from The New York Sun article, Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus,  that first appeared on September 21, 1897.

You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

So I continue to think (and hope) that Santa’s elves are watching and that the veil covering the unseen world remains intact and that all those feelings of faith, poetry, love and romance fill out hearts all year long.  Merry Christmas one and all!
