Watching the Ball Drop

Watching the Ball Drop

The animals have gathered around to celebrate New Year’s Eve including their very own ball drop.  I think that countdown will take a bit longer than 10 seconds though.

I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very happy New Year, full of fun, success, health and happiness. I want to thank my sponsors for allowing me to show off your beautiful creations, my friends and family for listening to me blather on about the fun of blogging and my fellow bloggers who have inspired me along the way.

I will end this post by sharing the words from a favorite canvas that hangs in my home.  I read it often as I pass through my home and think the words are important and meaningful for us all.

Be yourself, take chances, create happiness, be passionate, fall in love, practice kindness, travel often, be generous, value friendships, learn new things, laugh every day, respect others, let go, be fearless.

Come Back Frosty

Come Back Frosty

Blogging should first and foremost be about doing something you love.  When I finally had the time to start working on photography and blogging I started with things I already had in my inventory.  Luckily I had been a bit of a hoarder in Second Life so had a good bit of stuff to work with.  I was full of ideas and had fun laying out a scene.

I have written before about not wanting to be put into a blogging category and that is still true.  I wondered if, the longer I blogged, that I would change my mind in that regard. I haven’t.  I like blogging decor, fashion, poses and sometimes just an idea.  That is what this picture is about.  It was just an idea.  There are no sponsored items, nothing I am showcasing…just an idea I got while watching the old animated and stop motion classics (Rudolph, Frosty, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, The Little Drummer Boy) while I decorated my Christmas tree.

I hope you enjoy my version of Karen, heartbroken and crying, because Frosty has melted after being locked in the greenhouse by Professor Hinkle.  Of course Santa comes and saves the day with a gust of northern wind and Frosty is returned to life.  Magical winters!  I love them.

Furry Forest Fortunes

Furry Forest Fortunes

I’m a sucker for animals in clothes.  Perhaps this goes back to my childhood, when my most favorite stories were about Uncle Wiggily Longears, the rabbit gentleman and Nurse Jane Fuzzy Wuzzy, his muskrat housekeeper.  The stories were written by Howard R. Garis with the first one being published in 1912. There were multiple illustrators through the years and I have included some of my favorite art at the end of this post so be sure to scroll all the way down for the cuteness!

They were filled with bad guys like the Woozy Wolf and the Skillery Skallery Alligator as well as young forest friends like Lulu, Alice and Jimmie Wibblewobble, the duck children and Billie and Johnnie Bushtail, they squirrel boys.  The stories were entertaining, the characters were endearing and the artwork fascinating to my child eyes.

When I saw these little Halloween forest critters I knew I had to have them, a few of them at least.  They are part of the Trick or Treat gacha set by Ionic and are available at the October round of The Chapter Four.  There are 12 different designs and I am sure I will go back for another try at some of the others!

Pendle Hill

Pendle Hill by Lauren Bentham

A few days ago I received a group notice from the super talented Lauren Bentham, the creator and owner of several sims that I am sure every Second Life photographer knows well.  The notice said she had been secretly working on a new creepy sim just in time for Halloween and since I love Halloween and I love her work I knew I would be going to visit…well, today was the day. Pendle Hill here I come.

When you arrive at the landing point you are offered a flashlight, the Pendle Hill Info and Rules notecard and a Landmark.  The notecard contains useful information about joining the group if you wish to rez props.  The notecard also states that the sim IS going to be a year round sim, not just here for Halloween.  Be sure to use the region windlight setting and turn up your sound.  I also want to add that none of my photos have been edited beyond cropping and all the lighting you see is created inworld (Advanced Lighting enabled).  Let’s continue!

From the landing point if you turn and face the water you will see this great sunken ship silhouetted in the moonlight. You can hear the wind whipping, waves lapping and see the lightning off in the distance.  Carefully work your way inland to explore the buildings.  There is a Magick Shoppe directly ahead and more buildings to the east. I headed to what I took to be the main house.

With the creep factor setting in, I could only hope that Mr. Crow’s eyes were the only ones I felt watching every step I made.

The house is full of spooky, old things along with voices, music boxes playing and old clocks ticking.  Be sure to watch out for cobwebs!

There is much to see at Pendle Hill so allow plenty of time and explore all of the buildings and the surrounding grounds.  I will be back for sure and am glad it will be a year round build.  Have fun and happy haunting!!

I Scream, You Scream!

Hair Fair 2018 BannerI Scream, You Scream!

From the title, it sounded like this blog was going to be about Halloween but I tricked you.  I think we all know the little rhyme “I scream, you scream, we all scream, for ice cream”  and if you are looking for something to scream about, let me remind you the Hair Fair is only open for 2 more days!!  I behaved myself this year and walked away with 4 new hairs, partly because I am so picky about my shade of blonde.  I am going to make one more trip over just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.  It’s for a great cause, with a minimum of 15% of purchases going to Wigs for Kids.  If you don’t need any hair you can make a donation at one of the many donation kiosks around the fair keeping in mind that 100% of kiosk donations go to Wigs for Kids.  It’s Second Life….bad hair days are not allowed!

Alright Mr. DeMille

Hair Fair 2018 BannerReady for my close up.jpg

“I’m ready for my closeup” eye and chipped tooth photo ready!  I’ve never had a black eye in the “real” world so this was actually fun to do.  It reminded me of when my daughter got a black eye playing softball in elementary school.  She thought it was the coolest thing!  Right now I think this hair by Tram is the coolest thing but then again I love, and own,  lots of Tram hair.  This one is currently available at the Hair Fair.

Hair in Second Life is a big deal, at least for me.  I have way more hair than I do shoes.  Hair in “real” life is a big deal too.  As a survivor of cancer (twice) I know what its like to NOT have hair and honestly can’t imagine having to go through that as a child.  We know children can be so cruel to each other.

The creators participating in the Hair Fair are donating portions of sale proceeds to Wigs for Kids and even if hair is not your thing you can also still contribute.  You can make a donation at one of the many kiosks located around the Hair Fair sims.  You can read more about Wigs for Kids and the work they do here.
