Featuring [Krescendo]

My husband and I recently started playing DayZ.  For those not familiar with DayZ, here is the description from Steam:

The post-soviet country of Chernarus is struck by an unknown virus, turning the majority population into frenzied infected. Fighting over resources has bred a hostile mentality among survivors, driving what’s left of humanity to collapse. You are one of the few immune to the virus – how far will you go to survive?

I have a love/hate relationship with this game.  I love playing it but it scares the crap out of me at the same time.  We play on our own server so at least I don’t have to worry about other players trying to kill me…just the zombies.  I figure its good practice for when the real zombies show up! *wink wink*

[Krescendo] has created a nearly perfect mode of transport for the occasion.  The Apoxwagon is coming soon to the Eclipse event which starts on the 13th.  It comes in Adult and PG versions and includes a hud allowing you to choose from 7 colors.  Get yours and be ready to survive the infected!

Watching the Ball Drop

Watching the Ball Drop

The animals have gathered around to celebrate New Year’s Eve including their very own ball drop.  I think that countdown will take a bit longer than 10 seconds though.

I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very happy New Year, full of fun, success, health and happiness. I want to thank my sponsors for allowing me to show off your beautiful creations, my friends and family for listening to me blather on about the fun of blogging and my fellow bloggers who have inspired me along the way.

I will end this post by sharing the words from a favorite canvas that hangs in my home.  I read it often as I pass through my home and think the words are important and meaningful for us all.

Be yourself, take chances, create happiness, be passionate, fall in love, practice kindness, travel often, be generous, value friendships, learn new things, laugh every day, respect others, let go, be fearless.

The Holiday Cottage

The Holiday Cottage

Featuring Sway’s

My main home in Second Life is on a beach but every year in early November I find a small parcel on a winter themed sim or make my own in a skybox.  It’s as close to a white Christmas as I will get and I do miss my Michigan white Christmases.  When I started blogging I got a second parcel because I could see that I would be changing decor constantly and as much as I like decorating I still need my “home” to remain constant with a few changes as seasonal items come and go.

Having the second parcel allowed me to set up my own winter getaway this year.  I built it on a sky platform in case I needed to use the water and space on the ground for something and I have enjoyed it for a couple of months now.  I will probably keep it this way until the end of January, when I will start getting the itch for spring to make its appearance.

I built it loosely on the cottage in the movie The Holiday, one of my favorites any time of year. It’s a great movie where two women, played by Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz, switch homes for 2 weeks during the holiday.  It’s has a bit of everything; love, drama, comedy and of course a happy ending.

Sway’s has a few new pieces out for Fifty Linden Friday today that I added to my home and they were the perfect touch.  Be sure to check them out because while Christmas might be over, winter is not.  Stay warm!

Fresh Powder

Fresh Powder

Featuring *Kate* Jewelry & Lyrium Poses

Ask around in the skiing community and I am sure you will hear varying definitions of the term “fresh powder” and its been MANY years since I was on a pair of skis, mostly because I just wasn’t that good at it and my desire to learn something that left me sore and freezing was pretty much nonexistent.

Fresh powder to me is waking up in the morning and finding everything has been blanketed in sparkling flakes.  The wind is still, the sun is shining and not man nor beast has disturbed a single flake.  This beauty can also be found on a snowy evening, when it’s the moon and not the sun, casting a glow over the glistening landscape.

It’s two days before Christmas and I am definitely missing the snow right now.  I am thankful for my little cabin in Second Life, decorated festively for the holiday, the ground covered in snow with gentle flakes falling and church bells ringing in the distance.  It’s  as close as I can get to the real thing this Christmas and I am enjoying the peace it brings.

There’s Gnome Place Like Home

There's Gnome Place Like Home

Featuring Simply Shelby, Sway’s, [Fetch] & Beyond Majestic

I remember as a child during Christmas time, my mother telling me Santa’s elves were watching.  It was a sure fire way to get me and my sister to stop in our tracks and to be on our best behavior…for at least the next 30 minutes or so.  Once I had a daughter of my own I also used this line on her.

My daughter believed in Santa for a long while and I kept the magic alive as long as I could.  Once friends started telling her there was no Santa and filling her with doubt I had to explain Santa a different way.  She was familiar with the “Christmas spirit” that we often talked about so I told her that while Santa may not be a real actual person, maybe Santa is actually a feeling that we get…a feeling of love, of kindness, a feeling that makes us take a closer look at how we treat others.  I told her that maybe “Santa” is what filled my heart with feelings that made me want to care about others, to help others, to be kind to others…maybe that was the Christmas spirit.  I’m sure she was a bit disappointed in the same way I was when I found out the truth about Santa but like her, I am blessed with magical Christmas memories of Santa and his magic.

This feeling is best described in one of my favorite lines from The New York Sun article, Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus,  that first appeared on September 21, 1897.

You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

So I continue to think (and hope) that Santa’s elves are watching and that the veil covering the unseen world remains intact and that all those feelings of faith, poetry, love and romance fill out hearts all year long.  Merry Christmas one and all!

Christmas Candy

Christmas Candy

Featuring Meva

I find myself drawn once again to combining two unlikely styles and love the outcome.  The final look of mixing the tough leather jacket with vintage looking hair and jewelry are exactly what I was hoping for. The jacket is by Meva and will be available at the new round of Cosmopolitan. The jacket comes in your choice of three colors, each including a texture hud for the shirt and patches.  The jacket can also be worn without the shirt.  The texture of the leather is very well done.  It looks like your favorite, soft, broken-in jacket and as you can see you don’t have to ride a motorcycle to make it look great!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Featuring [Fetch] & Fashiowl Poses

Happy Friday everyone!  We had a little snow in the air here in the southern United States and I had to quickly grab some video on my phone.  We just don’t see it much here and having lived in Michigan most of my life I suppose I miss it a bit….at Christmastime at least.  It was only fitting that my latest photo feature a bit of the fluffy flakes.

I am feeling all wintry in my quilted skirt and fuzzy sweater from [Fetch].  You can find the outfit at Collabor88.  It’s called Kelly and comes in 18 mix and match color options, 9 for the skirt and 9 for the sweater. Super cute!

The pose I am using comes from the always creative Fashiowl Poses.  Its called Xmas Bicycle and is your gift at The Liaison Collaborative right now!  It includes 7 different poses that are built in the bike and also included separately and are adjustable via menu.  Fashiowl Poses is also having a 50% off sale in their mainstore right now thru the 26th.  It’s a great time to grab up some adorable poses and props.
