Saturday Morning Cartoons

Saturday Morning Cartoons

Featuring Lyrium and [Krescendo]

I have been doing a good bit of reminiscing this past week, sharing memories with my family and was reminded how simple life was when we hopped up on Saturday morning and spent the next several hours watching our favorite cartoons.  Actually cartoons is not really accurate because most of my favorites were not animated at all.

On the screen in this photo was the one and only H.R. Pufnstuf!  It was a favorite along with Lidsville, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Land of the Lost, Electra-Woman and Dynagirl and Dr. Shrinker, none of which were actually animated!  Scooby Doo and Bugs Bunny were at the top of the list in the animated category.

I have found almost all of these shows have episodes on YouTube.  Tomorrow I think I will start my morning with some terribly sweet cereal (do they still make Apple Jacks) and a little bit of the good old days in the form of Sigmund, some sleestaks and Chaka and a little bit of Witchypoo!  Who needs to wait for Saturday!

Them Hens Is Organised

Them Hens is Organized

Featuring |T|L|C| Home Collection

Them hens is organised…the words spoken by Mr. Tweedy multiple times in the movie Chicken Run and organized they were!  Chicken Run is an older stop motion movie, released in 2000 by Dreamworks and it’s quite cute and comical.

Mr. and Mrs. Tweedy own a chicken farm and when greedy Mrs. Tweedy isn’t happy with the egg profits she starts plans for “Mrs. Tweedy’s Chicken Pies”.  Ginger, the smart hen of the bunch, often dreams of escape and her attempts usually end up with her in solitary confinement.  Ginger finally come up with a plan with the help of an injured rooster, the other hens and a couple of rats.  Mr. Tweedy knows something is going on and keeps trying to tell his wife that the hens are organized.  She doesn’t believe him and has some harsh words for him but in the end she gets her due comeuppance!

The movie was produced by a British studio, hence the spelling of organised with an “s” unlike the “z” we use here in the US.  You can catch Mrs. Tweedy giving Mr. Tweedy the what for here!  Cute movie, well worth the watch!

Some Enchanted Evening

Some Enchanted Evening

Featuring [Krescendo] and *SK*

Hello Muggles!  My featured items today both come from the World of Magic event.  If you are a Harry Potter fan or just a fan of that genre you don’t want to miss it.  There are some great items available!

From [Krescendo] is the Headmasters Desk and Chair set and the Wizards Work set.  The Headmasters set comes in Adult and PG versions and the Wizards Work set is decor items that work great with the desk.  I especially love the little cauldron.  It’s detailed perfectly right down to the steam, the swirling colored liquid and the little colored twinkles coming out of the brew.

My dress and overcoat are from *SK* and it comes complete with a magic wand. The Narcisa dress and coat can be worn together or separately.  There are several colors to choose from for the coat and the dress.  It’s what all the headmistresses are wearing!

Be sure to visit the World of Magic before it magically disappears on March 3rd.

Courageous Woman

Courageous Woman

Featuring *SK*

“There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.”

Elizabeth Bennet – Pride and Prejudice

This picture is a perfect example of why I say I don’t want to limit myself to one style of blogging.  For me it is so much more satisfying when I can be inspired by something whether it is fashion or decor, modern or vintage.

I thought of the movie Pride and Prejudice immediately when I saw this dress by *SK*.  I love the movie and the main character, Elizabeth Bennet,  or perhaps I should say I love the personality given to the character by the book’s author, Jane Austen.  Elizabeth is courageous, playful, independent and intelligent….she just doesn’t put up with crap, you know?

The quote above is one of my favorites.  I have always felt that same way for as long as I can remember but didn’t realize how fortunate that really was until I was older.  Peer pressure has never been an issue for me at any point in my life and I realize how lucky I was to have escaped it.  I have never felt a need to fit in if that meant pretending and I have never been afraid to admit to my likes or dislikes about something, even if they put me in the minority.

These strengths begin to be formed in childhood and I realize not everyone is allowed to nurture these strengths.  My wish for all is that you have the same courage Elizabeth had and that it rises up when you need it most!

Vintage Valentines

vintage valentines

Featuring *KATE*

I am a lover of all things vintage but especially vintage holiday decorations.  I saw these vintage Valentine textures quite a while back and knew that I wanted to use them sometime in the future.  I figured it would be in a framed display in my Second Life home since I wasn’t blogging back then but here they are and I am happy I get to use them for someone other than myself to see.

They just don’t make Valentines like they used to.  Most everything these days is licensed characters with a heart slapped on it somewhere.  I, myself, am a bit vintage so I can remember the cute Valentines with silly sayings like the bee saying “Bee Mine” or “Honey, I like you” and the little deer saying “I love you “deer-ly”.  I also remember spending the days leading up to Valentines Day decorating an old cereal box with construction paper and paper doily cut out hearts.  Once Valentine’s Day arrived we would all bring our boxes to school and when it was time to pass out Valentines we would drop them into each others beautiful cereal boxes.  Do kids even do that anymore??  If they don’t they are missing out on some great memories down the road.

*KATE* has released this adorable ring and bracelet set in time for Valentines Day.  It comes fitted for Maitreya and Slink and includes a hud to change metal textures as well as to hide/show the rings or bracelet. You can find it in the mainstore.

Safari Sunset

Featuring InsurreKtion

So I have said before that I don’t consider myself a “home and garden” blogger or a “fashion” blogger because I don’t want to limit myself to those categories.  I want to be able to blog what I like and what I am in the mood, artistically, to blog.  I did have a lot of fun with this photo though and its probably the “busiest” decor photo I have done.

Typically, and this is just my own opinion, I think a lot of decor photos are way overdone with too much “clutter”.  That seems to be a popular style though and sometimes that works great and sometimes it’s just too much and the items don’t relate to the scene and look like they were just thrown in to fill up space.  There are a lot of pieces in this Ethnic Collection set by InsurreKtion and I wanted to enhance them but also stick to the theme.  I had fun going through my inventory and even teleporting here and there, looking for things I thought would compliment the pieces in the set so that they would tell a story of sorts.  I am very happy with the finished scene.

The Ethnic Collection is available at the Boardwalk Event, going on now through February 15th.  It comes in Adult and Pg versions and can be bought as a set or as individual pieces. The lamps and spotlight are available in the full set only.

Adventure at the Shore

Adventure at the Shore.jpg

Featuring :: NEWCHURCH ::

I’m ready to move in!  I think I may need to recreate this for my main house in Second Life which is on the beach.  I definitely think there is a difference between a house on the beach and a house near the shore.  I think “tropical” when I hear the word beach and I think more along the lines of “nautical” when I think of seaside living.

In my mind the people who live here woke early,  someone made the bed and made some tea.  They have carefully lain out a map and compass to chart their course for the day.  They could be sailing enthusiasts, treasure hunters, explorers or just someone lucky enough to call this seaside home their own.

The centerpiece of the room is this beautiful sleigh bed by NEWCHURCH.  The wood grain is done perfectly and looks just like many antique beds I have come and go through my mothers home over the years.  She has always been an avid collector.  The Nicholas Sleigh Bed is available at Cosmopolitan and comes in PG and Adult versions.  The top quilt and pillows have a texture change menu and it comes with Copy/Mod permissions.

A Real Page Turner

A Real Page Turner.jpg

I wonder how many people today know what that title means.  How many of us still read actual books?  With all of today’s Kindles and Glowlights and audio books, having to turn the page is becoming a thing of the past.  There is a used book store not to far from my home and I like to stop in from time to time just to browse and take in the smell.  Bookstores and used book stores have a distinct smell, like old fashioned hardware stores did.

I can remember when I was in high school and would take a load of books to the used book store.  You got credit for bringing in old ones which meant you got to pay the cheaper price posted for the ones you were purchasing.  It was a real money saver if you were an avid reader.  The owner had a cat that would follow me around the whole time I was there and as an animal lover it was hard to choose between looking at books or petting the cat.

This book nook is by Sway’s and will be available at Whimsical which starts on November 18th at 12 noon SLT.  It comes in PG and Adult versions and has texture options for the wood and pillows. Grab a book, a snack, have a seat and enjoy!
