Christmas Keys

Christmas Keys.jpg

One thing I really love about the Christmas season it the music.  Growing up my mother played her collection of Christmas albums the whole month of December on a floor model record player.  Back then record players were in a large console that was actually what I would consider a piece of furniture.

I remember it well, sliding the top open and watching the records spin round and round. While the old console is long gone, my mother still keeps a record player and still plays all those old, well loved, Christmas albums.

This gorgeous piano is by Krescendo and is available now at the Seduction Fair until December 21st. The baubles in the vases are from Krescendo as well and are part of the MadPea Alliance.  You can read more about the MadPea Premium hunts here.

The beautiful dress I am wearing is by *Sweet Kajira* and is coming soon to the Sense Event which opens on December 18th.  The Jane dress comes in nine shades, perfect for the holidays and beyond.

Come Back Frosty

Come Back Frosty

Blogging should first and foremost be about doing something you love.  When I finally had the time to start working on photography and blogging I started with things I already had in my inventory.  Luckily I had been a bit of a hoarder in Second Life so had a good bit of stuff to work with.  I was full of ideas and had fun laying out a scene.

I have written before about not wanting to be put into a blogging category and that is still true.  I wondered if, the longer I blogged, that I would change my mind in that regard. I haven’t.  I like blogging decor, fashion, poses and sometimes just an idea.  That is what this picture is about.  It was just an idea.  There are no sponsored items, nothing I am showcasing…just an idea I got while watching the old animated and stop motion classics (Rudolph, Frosty, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, The Little Drummer Boy) while I decorated my Christmas tree.

I hope you enjoy my version of Karen, heartbroken and crying, because Frosty has melted after being locked in the greenhouse by Professor Hinkle.  Of course Santa comes and saves the day with a gust of northern wind and Frosty is returned to life.  Magical winters!  I love them.

My post today is for one of the blogger challenges offered by the SL Christmas Expo called “Why I Relay“.  The challenge is for anyone who has a personal reason to support Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society and like it or not, I have reason.

I am a two time breast cancer survivor. First diagnosed in 2007, I went through the usual treatment; chemo, surgery, radiation. Thankfully, I was able to move forward, rarely giving cancer another thought, determined not to live in fear of the “what if’s” and I did that successfully. Fast forward to 2016, when I learned it was back, this time learning I had inherited a gene mutation, BRCA2 that raised my odds of getting breast and ovarian cancer greatly, 80% in fact. There was more surgery, more chemo but I did it all again, successfully and am doing well today.

Since the second diagnosis, its been a little harder not to think about the “what if’s” but they are mostly in regards to my daughter, who is about to be tested for the gene mutation she has a 50/50 chance of having.  So, why do I relay?  I relay for myself, I relay for my dear friend, Toni, who lost her fight after 3 graceful battles, I relay for my nephew, newly diagnosed with Lymphoma and about to begin chemo, I relay for all of those who have fought this battle successfully or gracefully never gave up trying and most of all I relay for my beautiful daughter, my only child, the greatest treasure I have ever known so that if she is faced with hard decisions, she will have the knowledge to make the best choices for her, in part due to the work done by The Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society and all of the other organizations working to end cancer.

Please visit the SL Christmas Expo, look around, shop, donate. There are great things available and with creators donating proceeds up to 100%, it is effortless on your part to support this great cause.

I Believe in Santa!

What to my wondering eyes should appear_

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and call’d them by name:
“Now! Dasher, now! Dancer, now! Prancer and Vixen,
“On! Comet, on! Cupid, on! Donder and Blitzen
“To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
“Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”

-From A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement Clarke Moore

I love how creating a scene can bring back such delightful memories, some old and some not so old.  I loved Christmas as a child and was blessed with parents that let me believe in Santa and worked all of their magic to make it appear he was real.  I did the same for my daughter, always leaving oats, sprinkled with glitter so they would sparkle across the snow, near our front door and white, pine scented boot prints in a trail from the chimney to the tree.  Such sweet memories!  Thank you to all the creators below, who stoked the embers of those memories, letting them shine bright once again.

Leader of the Pack

Leader of the Pack

The sun is just starting to warm the frost filled air and the sled team is starting to stir.  Their owner had a pot of coffee brewing over the fire and is ready for another day of like in the Alaskan wilderness.  For years, my brother was a licensed guide in Alaska, who ran his own outfit leading hunters in their quest for bear and Dall sheep.  I have seen some wonderful photos and it looks beautiful.  I am certain I would find it too cold for my liking but these Huskies are perfectly comfortable.

Featured here are creations from |T|L|C|Home Collection and [Krescendo].  The Husky Outpost comes to us from |T|L|C| and is currently at the new round of Cosmopolitan.  The detail is amazing as usual.  You can change the fur texture on the adults and puppies and one of the adults even has cold breath vapor!  Just beautiful.

The buildings and other decor are by [Krescendo] and though not new, they certainly deserve another look as they are perfect for this time of year.  They are part of the Caribou Creek gacha set that premiered at a previous round of 6 Republic.  Creators design themes revolved around specific states of the USA and [Krescendo] was representing Alaska which worked out perfectly for my photo.

Starry Skies

Starry Skies

It’s a beautiful snowy, starry evening in Second Life.  The creators are really outdoing themselves right now and I am loving way too much stuff!!  I have to mention how gorgeous these new starry windlights are.  I am just in love.  They are from Battlescars and I will include the link to the marketplace in my credits but now onto this outfit.

As I was quickly perusing Flickr photos the other morning I saw this outfit in a picture and the first thing I thought was that I had to have the sweater.  Imagine my surprise when I logged into Second Life and found that is was designed by one of my sponsors!  I was so excited!  I love everything about it…the way it lays just off the shoulders, the perfect combination of “fuzz” and glitter, and the hint of sheerness in the midriff.  Just beautiful! It is from *SK* and is currently at Tres Chic, open now thru December 10th.

The pose is by Fashiowl and from the Ghost set that will be available at HARAJUKU.  It has 7 really cute bento poses and includes a little ghost prop.  The thing I love about Fashiowl Poses is their versatility.  You can find so many perfect situations for them with or without the included props.  HARAJUKU starts on November 20th and Fashiowl will have other sets at the event as well.

Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather

If you are a bird watcher or bird lover you are going to want the latest creations by |T|L|C|!!  First we have the “Fly Thru”, the most popular dining spot of the most fashionable birds in town.  The detail is amazing.  The lights on the sign have a flashing light effect that can be turned on or off and a volume control for the birds as well.  So cute!  The next offering is “Meow’s Diner” and is only for the birds who are not faint of heart.  Those brave birds willing to take that step onto the cat’s tongue will be rewarded with a pile of seeds they will find just inside. Again, you can control the volume of the birds so you can decide what works best for your environment.  The feeders are available at Tannenbaum which is going on now until December 22nd.  Fly on over and check it out!
