Mojito Magic

Mojito Magic

Featuring Sway’s and [InsurreKtion]

Summer is coming….When the sun begins to fade you will take my hand and lead me to the patio.  You will light a fire, not for warmth but for mood, as the summer air has left the evening warm.  You turn on some music to set the tone and pour us each a chilled mojito , made with the perfect amount of lime and mint leaves.  We watch in silence as the sun sinks to meet the horizon, the music playing softly in the background while the sounds of the evening fill the air.  Summer is coming….

10 fresh mint leaves

1/2 lime, cut in 4 wedges

2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste

1 cup ice cubes

1 1/2 oz. of white rum

1/2 cup club soda

Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a sturdy glass. Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime to release the mint oils and lime juice. Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, and muddle again to release the lime juice. Do not strain the mixture. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice. Pour the rum over the ice, and fill the glass with carbonated water. Stir, taste, and add more sugar if desired. Garnish with the remaining lime wedge.

Rural Delivery

Rural Delivery

Featuring Sway’s

Let me just say how much fun I have had blogging these past 8 months!  So far I haven’t hit any roadblocks or lack of ideas and that is in part due to my sponsors.  I love when I get an idea instantly upon seeing items as I am unpacking them and the latest release from Sway’s did exactly that.

Featured here are items from the Mail For You gacha set that is available now at The Gacha Garden.  As soon as I saw the key photo I got my idea….it was that quick.

Up until I was about 10 we lived in the city, on a cute little city block where our mail was delivered to a cute little mailbox that hung right next to the front door.  Then we moved to the “boonies” which wasn’t really the boondocks but after living in the city it sure seemed like it.  It was certainly rural though.  People lived on acres, not lots and there were farms and horses and orchards…a complete change of scenery for sure. Where I had usually walked to school, I now had to take a bus and where we had been able to open the door and get the mail without even stepping off the porch, we now had to not only go outside but also cross the street to get to the mailbox.  It was totally normal to see clusters of mailboxes side by side.

That is still the place I think of as home, the place my mother still lives 40+ years later and I still smile now whenever I drive past little clusters of mailboxes.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Adventure at the Shore

Adventure at the Shore.jpg

Featuring :: NEWCHURCH ::

I’m ready to move in!  I think I may need to recreate this for my main house in Second Life which is on the beach.  I definitely think there is a difference between a house on the beach and a house near the shore.  I think “tropical” when I hear the word beach and I think more along the lines of “nautical” when I think of seaside living.

In my mind the people who live here woke early,  someone made the bed and made some tea.  They have carefully lain out a map and compass to chart their course for the day.  They could be sailing enthusiasts, treasure hunters, explorers or just someone lucky enough to call this seaside home their own.

The centerpiece of the room is this beautiful sleigh bed by NEWCHURCH.  The wood grain is done perfectly and looks just like many antique beds I have come and go through my mothers home over the years.  She has always been an avid collector.  The Nicholas Sleigh Bed is available at Cosmopolitan and comes in PG and Adult versions.  The top quilt and pillows have a texture change menu and it comes with Copy/Mod permissions.

The Holiday Cottage

The Holiday Cottage

Featuring Sway’s

My main home in Second Life is on a beach but every year in early November I find a small parcel on a winter themed sim or make my own in a skybox.  It’s as close to a white Christmas as I will get and I do miss my Michigan white Christmases.  When I started blogging I got a second parcel because I could see that I would be changing decor constantly and as much as I like decorating I still need my “home” to remain constant with a few changes as seasonal items come and go.

Having the second parcel allowed me to set up my own winter getaway this year.  I built it on a sky platform in case I needed to use the water and space on the ground for something and I have enjoyed it for a couple of months now.  I will probably keep it this way until the end of January, when I will start getting the itch for spring to make its appearance.

I built it loosely on the cottage in the movie The Holiday, one of my favorites any time of year. It’s a great movie where two women, played by Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz, switch homes for 2 weeks during the holiday.  It’s has a bit of everything; love, drama, comedy and of course a happy ending.

Sway’s has a few new pieces out for Fifty Linden Friday today that I added to my home and they were the perfect touch.  Be sure to check them out because while Christmas might be over, winter is not.  Stay warm!

There’s Gnome Place Like Home

There's Gnome Place Like Home

Featuring Simply Shelby, Sway’s, [Fetch] & Beyond Majestic

I remember as a child during Christmas time, my mother telling me Santa’s elves were watching.  It was a sure fire way to get me and my sister to stop in our tracks and to be on our best behavior…for at least the next 30 minutes or so.  Once I had a daughter of my own I also used this line on her.

My daughter believed in Santa for a long while and I kept the magic alive as long as I could.  Once friends started telling her there was no Santa and filling her with doubt I had to explain Santa a different way.  She was familiar with the “Christmas spirit” that we often talked about so I told her that while Santa may not be a real actual person, maybe Santa is actually a feeling that we get…a feeling of love, of kindness, a feeling that makes us take a closer look at how we treat others.  I told her that maybe “Santa” is what filled my heart with feelings that made me want to care about others, to help others, to be kind to others…maybe that was the Christmas spirit.  I’m sure she was a bit disappointed in the same way I was when I found out the truth about Santa but like her, I am blessed with magical Christmas memories of Santa and his magic.

This feeling is best described in one of my favorite lines from The New York Sun article, Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus,  that first appeared on September 21, 1897.

You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

So I continue to think (and hope) that Santa’s elves are watching and that the veil covering the unseen world remains intact and that all those feelings of faith, poetry, love and romance fill out hearts all year long.  Merry Christmas one and all!
