Courageous Woman

Courageous Woman

Featuring *SK*

“There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.”

Elizabeth Bennet – Pride and Prejudice

This picture is a perfect example of why I say I don’t want to limit myself to one style of blogging.  For me it is so much more satisfying when I can be inspired by something whether it is fashion or decor, modern or vintage.

I thought of the movie Pride and Prejudice immediately when I saw this dress by *SK*.  I love the movie and the main character, Elizabeth Bennet,  or perhaps I should say I love the personality given to the character by the book’s author, Jane Austen.  Elizabeth is courageous, playful, independent and intelligent….she just doesn’t put up with crap, you know?

The quote above is one of my favorites.  I have always felt that same way for as long as I can remember but didn’t realize how fortunate that really was until I was older.  Peer pressure has never been an issue for me at any point in my life and I realize how lucky I was to have escaped it.  I have never felt a need to fit in if that meant pretending and I have never been afraid to admit to my likes or dislikes about something, even if they put me in the minority.

These strengths begin to be formed in childhood and I realize not everyone is allowed to nurture these strengths.  My wish for all is that you have the same courage Elizabeth had and that it rises up when you need it most!

Mean Old Captain Hook

Featuring [Fetch] and Lyrium

OK…my love of Disney is showing again, isn’t it?  I can’t help myself…I am really in need of a Disney World visit.  This didn’t start out as a Tinkerbell photo but when I changed the color of the dress to this green shade, Tinkerbell immediately came to mind…and the rest is history.

This cute little scalloped dress by [Fetch] is available at Soiree, the Collabor88 spinoff.  It comes in your choice of  9 colors or a fatpack is available as well.  The landmark for Soiree is in the credits.  Stop by and grab this playful dress in your favorite color…maybe yours is Tink green too!

Moving Day

Moving Day

Moving!  I am sure we have all done it at least once..and even though once is enough there are people, families, that have to do it often due to work or being in the service.  Moving after living in the same home for several years is terrible.  We accumulate so much stuff.  The last time I moved, which was almost exactly 6 years ago, I was moving from a home I had lived in for about 11 years.  I was moving out of state as well so that meant I had to really purge.  It felt good actually, to let go of some clutter.  If only moving in our real lives were as simple as moving in Second Life…you know, scooping it all up in one fell swoop and setting it down again.  Even though moving is hard work I do remember the excitement of that first night in your new place.  I think this picture captures it pretty well…pizza and beer by candlelight, sleeping on the floor and boxes piled everywhere.  If you happen to be moving this weekend be sure to enjoy your first night in your new home and think of the great future you will have within its walls….and then have some pizza and beer!

Let’s Play HORSE

Let's Play HORSE

Remember “back in the day” when we were kids and we played OUTSIDE all day?  I remember running out the door right after breakfast, six or so houses down the block to my best friends house.  I would run up on the porch and cup my eyes with my hands and press my face to the door screen and shout “Can Brenda come play?”

We played hide and seek, kick the cans and one of my favorites, HORSE.  For those who may not know, HORSE was played with a basketball.  One person would go first, pick any spot to try and make a basket and if they did then the other person had to make the shot from the same spot.  If they made it, then they got to pick a spot to make a shot and so it went back and forth.  When you missed a shot the other person had made you got an H and the next time you missed you got an O and so on until you had missed enough shots to spell out HORSE.  Whoever got HORSE first lost the game and got taunted with the “You are a horse” chant and then we would start a new game!

Such a simple game in such simple times.  We didn’t realize the joys of childhood until it was too late!  However, it’s not too late to pick up a basketball, grab some friends or family and play a good game of HORSE!  Try it!
