Featuring MONUMENT at Redeux
Most young adults can’t wait until their 21st birthday, making big plans to go and hit the bars. Me and my other 3 best friends were a little different! For us it was all about the dancing!
It started when a local bar designated Tuesday evenings as “teen night” and we went every Tuesday or every Tuesday one of our parents would drive us, dancing until the wee hours of 10 PM. We spent a few months loving our Tuesday night dancing until we found out about a dance club that was JUST for teens and it was open Friday and Saturday nights. This meant no more school night worries! It was a little further from home so now we had to split the parental driving duties…one friends parents taking us and another picking us up.
This continued for about a year I guess until we got our drivers licences. Then we just had to get permission to use the car. I think the parents were actually happy since it meant no more one AM pickups for them. And so this continued for YEARS! All through 4 years of high school we spent either Friday or Saturday night there..sometimes both. Throughout all that time we made great friends, dancing partners and even became friends with the owners.
Fast forward to the year we all started having our 18th birthdays. Technically that was the cut off age and you weren’t supposed to be allowed in to the teen club and for a lot of our friends this was fine. They found bars where you only had to be 18 to get it and started going there. My friends and I tried a few but the crowd was obviously WAY different and we started having to deal with men that were WAY too old for us. We wanted back into the teen club where the music was better than any bar and the dance floor was much bigger and because of our friendship with the owners they still allowed us in. Was it breaking the rules..yes…but we weren’t there to prey on the new 13 and 14 year olds…we were only there for the dancing…and dance we did!
